A concert of music from the 19th Century for piano and clarinet by composers Schumann, Schubert and Brahms.
The evening will begin with a conversational journey into the men behind the music presented by the performers, Claire Little and Peter Hagen.

Come and hear some of the challenges and intrigues that peppered the lives of Schumann, Schubert and Brahms and undoubtedly influenced the passion behind their music.
Local Produce Platters for two, prepared by the Mansfield Regional Produce Store, are available for pre-purchase with your tickets. Have a glass of wine and nibbles the local delights before the concert while you learn more about the composers.

The Performers

Claire Little

Claire LittleClaire Little has established herself as an accomplished performer, music educator and conductor. Hailing from Tasmania she completed her Bachelor of Music in Performance at the University of Melbourne, studying clarinet with Philip Miechel. She performed with the University of Melbourne Orchestra and was principal clarinet of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra. Chamber music has been an important part of Claire’s musical journey and, as well as gathering musicians to perform large-scale chamber works she was a founding member of wind quintet ‘Wind Serenade’, based in Melbourne in the 1990s. Claire was a finalist in the Austral Salon solo performance awards, the Melbourne Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and, with wind quintet ‘Wind Serenade’, in the Melbourne University Chamber Music Competition.  As a local music educator, Claire encourages musicians, young and old, through private tuition and music programmes in and around Mansfield.

Peter Hagen

Peter HagenPeter Hagen majored in pianoforte and harpsichord at the Conservatorium of Music, Melbourne University. He furthered his studies in the Netherlands learning from Bob Van Asperen, Jacques Ogg and Ton Koopman. As well as playing in ensembles such as Il Teatro Musicale and the Flevolandskamerorkest, he gave solo recitals in Switzerland, England and Germany. In Australia he has performed in many capital cities as well as regional centres performing in festivals such as the Brisbane Early Music Centre, the Melbourne Early Music Festival and the Melbourne Autumn Music Festival. He has also directed & been a member of numerous chamber music ensembles. Peter now lives in Broadford and, as well as maintaining his performing across Australia, he is working hard in the local community to promote the Arts and music education.
