Truck and New Fire Shed Project

Maindample CFA members realised the need for a for quick response fire fighting unit some three years ago after the Yea – Highland fires and again during the Great Divide fires of 2006-07.

The Maindample fire unit is the first back up to Mansfield CFA and other surrounding smaller brigades, and if called out in a major fire, such as the Great Divide fires, it leaves the small community of Maindample and its surrounding farmland defenceless.

A small brigade committee has been fundraising for more than two years to raise enough to purchase its own slip-on unit – a four wheel drive with fitted water tank, pump and fire fighting equipment. However, in order to do this the brigade’s fire shed has had to be doubled in size and is now required to also include several other facilities.

In total the brigade needs to raise nearly $100,000.

The 3rd Annual Heritage Day’s proceeds will go towards this project, as has the profits from the previous two years.

To date, other fundraising efforts by members has seen the brigade raise more than half the amount required.

As the Heritage Day has grown in its three years so has its popularity – with crowds being drawn for the day by entertainment, demonstrations – and great food.

Maindample CFA brigade members service not just the tiny township on Maroondah Highway, but an area covering some 100 square kilometres and more than 350 properties. It has but one ageing tanker.

Help us to make a difference in protecting properties in this dedicated rural area while exploring the heritage of the district and the fun of a great farm day out.
